all about me, through LUMO-graphy!

My best friend Hayley just got back to India and introduced me to ginger tea! Just slice up a few pieces of ginger, pop them in your tea of choice (even add milk if you so desire) and feel instantly calmer!

My aunty Bev came down from East London and bought us one of her famous GIGANTIC avo's from her garden. I've placed a few objects next to the avo to try show you how bloody HUGE this thing is! To make it even better they are so creamy and delicious!

I took this photo on the rooftop of Rosebank on Saturday, I love the brightness of the red brick.

Design is a good idea in 44 Stanley is a GOOOOOOOOD idea to go to.
I fell in love with their Pantone mugs and diary's! They have uber cool stuff in there, anyone interested in design will just wee from excitement!

Also at a shop at 44, how beautiful! And easily done, or so Hayley and I thought so. So keep your eye's peeled for my own version!

Chandeliers hanging in a shop at 44 Stanley, I'm so sorry but I forgot what it was called. I felt like a princess walking in there and having so many chandeliers hanging above my head! I would love to do a shoot there one-day!

Something I found outside one of the shops. Lovely! I love JHB!

Hayley and I had a spot of lunch at Plaka in Northcliff. A day filled with champagne and Tapa's, a dream come true!

Treat? Jes, Danni, Sarah and I went on a girls night in Greenside on Saturday night (Halloween). Whilst minding our own business at The Office we received some shooters (presumably tequila, due to the precariously laid down lemons) and all swooned knowing that we 'still have IT'. After ching chinging and downing said shooters, they turned out to be water.

Trick?

Nice one guys, would have loved to see the barman's face when these gentlemen ordered 6 shooters of water and lemon?

A lovely photo of an illustration that my dear love Ricki owns, it's beautiful isn't it?

A Christmas Carol and the Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens bought at a charity shop on Saturday, too sweet!

White Fang by Jack London, also purchased on Sat. I wish they still made book covers like this. Yellow linen and black letterpress.

And last but not least a T-shirt I bought from Dokter & Misses at 44 Stanley. You can check them out here online.

The dude at the the shop said their friend did this T-shirt, I'll find out who the artist is but I think it's such an amazing t-shirt!

Check out the hanging gardens by Joe Paine, totally gonna get me one next month.

Love!

Lemon Meringue love from lovely Susan!

Lovely Susan's mother in law made her an AMAZING Lemon Meringue for her birthday! And being the lovely person she is she brought it into work to share!

YUM delish!

It gave every one a bit of a pucker pout but it was totally worth it!

I also love Susan's cupcake fabric which she so delicately laid out the knifes and forks on.

Too sweet!

Thank you Susan's mother in law!
And Happy happy birthday Susanetjie.

Food + Art = YAY!

Amazing Foodshots by Marina Aurora!
I have just become such a fan.

Her photographs are so beautiful in their simplicity.
I also think I love them because they have a bizarre sense of order.
Everything is placed to strategically, methodically even.

Feast your eyes!

On my wish list today.

Minimal copy.
Maximum cool.

I got told by the Discovery health team last week that I need glasses, apparently i'm far sighted?I was not amped... but now that I see these beauties, things are looking up!
BINGO! How pretty, wooden bingo boards, Tres Chic.

Vintage Teal pumps with red leather inner lining. This item has been sold...NOOOOO :(
High waisted trousers! I reckon these beauties would make anyone look shit hot!
Excuse the french but WOW, i'm tempted.
Chrysler ring! Sproutonline is based in New York, this is what the seller had to say This sleek, art deco ring is inspired by the Chrysler building, which I can see from the Queens Metal studio window. The piece is substantial, comfortable to wear, and eye-catching -- without being overwhelming.

I'm sorry, but we don't hire women.

I found this today while trying to clear my mind of the hectic week i've had.
I can't believe the world used to work like this? Bizarre but interesting non the less!

Miss Mary T. Ford
Searcy,
Arkansas

Dear Miss Ford,

Your letter of recent date has been received in the Inking and Painting Department for reply.

Women do not do any of the creative work in connection with preparing the cartoons for the screen, as that work is performed entirely by young men. For this reason girls are not considered for the training school.

The only work open to women consists of tracing the characters on clear celluloid sheets with India ink and filling in the tracings on the reverse side with paint according to the directions.

In order to apply for a position as “Inker” or “Painter” it is necessary that one appear at the Studio, bringing samples of pen and ink and water color work. It would not be advisable to come to Hollywood with the above specifically in view, as there are really very few openings in comparison with the number of girls who apply.

Yours very truly,

WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS, LTD.
I wonder what Mary ended up doing? The letter was written in 1938...
Hmmm... The Mary Ford maybe?
Mary Ford, also known as Iris Colleen Summers (July 7, 1924[1], El Monte, California – September 30, 1977, Arcadia, California), was an American vocalist and guitarist, comprising half of the husband-and-wife musical team Les Paul and Mary Ford. Between 1950 and 1954, the couple had 16 top-ten hits. In 1951 alone they sold six million records.
Or maybe not.

Mine and jes's chat roulette adventure.

One dark, overly bored and creatively needing a pick me up kinda night, my best friend Jes and I decided to give Omegle a try (chat roulette). How this works is, you log in, put your web cam on and chat to whoever pops up on your screen. You have a choice to skip the conversation for many reasons that im not going to get into (use your imagination).

About 80 percent of the time you're bound to see a creepy guy doing stuff your parents never warned you about, the next 10 percent are naughty young school kids and then I suppose we would fall into the the last 10 percent, overly intrigued and adventurous souls that really only want to make friends. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

So I took a screen grab that I know will amuse you, this is what happens when two 24 year old girls get chatting to 2 young boys, way past their bed time. I'm not sure who was giggling more? Us...or them?

Kids these days right? I remember doing prank phone calls and tok tokkie. How rude.

For Rick.

My dear love,

I've been so busy at work and I miss you.
I found this for you on Goodmorning&Goodnight.
I think this couple could be us if we closed our eye's
really tight and looked at the screen from a distance.

This is how I feel today.

Only Keith Haring could depict it so perfectly. What a hectic week. As usual I'm thinking to myself, am I going to survive this? At which point I respond, "you always do".

How awesome is John Holcomb?

And he's freeking great!

Here's his quick bio, and man does it make me wanna be his BBF forever!

Name: John Holcomb
Age: 25
Occupation: Artist and Illustrator
Degree: BA in Design & Illustration
School: John Brown University

"I am shorthanded because this whole dog and pony show is just me. I hate the big ego’s artists often have and the elitism that come within art circles. Neither describe me. Refreshing and compelling illustration motivates me to continually work at my own craft. Hopefully both adjectives describe my artwork too. I’m a regular guy from Kansas, I love art and creating it."
So you know how much I love illustration for kiddies books, he does that too!
What a man!

And now for his greatest work! (or I think anyway)

He did a project called United Plates, a series of illustration showing
different states in America and their individual national food.

I'm going to start with Indiana, obviously!!!

If you're in love with him, like me, go here.
