Metro Citizens, proud of our heritage.

"Ubuntu" - "I am because we are"

Holidays are always fun! A day off from the office is always appreciated! However Hertiage day is something to be celebrated! With 11 official languages here in Afrik De Suid, it's amazing and something to be proud of, even if I can only speak one of those languages! (something to be amended in the near future!)

Heritage day is quite a complicated day to define because we are such a melting pot, all so unique and diverse in our own way.

Here's a little explanation that I found which say's it better than I could!

In a way, who we are and who we choose to be as a nation is very much a product of our collective heritage.

Because of our history and the lessons drawn from it, we have chosen to gather strength in our diversity and not to regard or use it as a divisive tool.

The celebratory Khoisan term Ke e Xarra Ke ("United in Diversity") serves as a living testimony to the choice we made more than ten years ago - to find peaceful and productive ways of resolving our differences, which has led to all of us living as one nation.

That choice makes it possible for us today to proudly speak of "unity in diversity".

South Africans have a pioneering spirit, courage and the determination to succeed.

These traits continue to drive us as we deal with the challenges of building a nation once divided, to finding fresh and innovative solutions in dealing with these challenges.

The optimism and encouragement we find in unlikely places and from the most unexpected people, fuels our task of bettering the lives of our fellow South Africans and at the same time, ensuring that we compete with the best in the world.

So here at Metro we are celebrating our heritage today and dressed up for the occasion. I've taken a few pics for you to enjoy.

Happy heritage day for tomorrow!

Ladies you looked oh so lovely!

LOVE,

A little Ghetto Blasta, Niskerone stop animation!

Pull up a seat, put on your favourite song (as i've been too lazy to put in a backing track), and imagine you were there. Awesome graphics from Niskerone! I just had to. Ghetto Blasta's launch party which took place on the 10th of September was awsome! Twelv & Thesis were my best! "ilove, suuuu-u-u-gaaaa!" Best be at the next one taking place on the 15th of October. Be there!
Ghetto Blasta, see the group for details.

I won I won! Maria from Nosideup you are lovely!

Maria Maria!

So I've never really won anything before? Or at least anything that I wanted so bad it ached! As a part of Nosideup turning 2 years old Maria conjured up the most awesome giveaway!

What amazing prize shall I be receiving you ask? 'A hair portrait. Wait. Your hair portrait. This means I'll draw your hairdo, you hair, your neck.' And guess who she picked out of the MANY people that commented. ME!

I've been a fan of Maria's hair illustrations for a while. They are so intricate and beautiful and I love the story they tell! And now I get my very own, not of Rebecca's hair, or Amanda's but my very own!

Here's a bit more on Maria:
'Maria Gil Ulldemolins
Barcelona, Spain
Trained as a Product designer and in Fine Arts (a bit). Now a MA student of Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture. Passionate about culture, trends, rituals and people (and vegan food). Proud owner of Nosideup Etsy store.'

Find out more on her site www.mariagilulldemolins.com, one of my favourite posts is called Man I feel like a woman, its amazing so CLICK on that link!

If you want a hair illustration too (out of pure jealousy of course!) go to her Etsy site!

Thank you Maria!

I will put up my hair illustration from Maria as soon as I get it, all the way from Barcelona baby!
No hurry, good things come to those who wait!

Jumpology

Who knew that jumping photo's were not MY idea, but an idea that was done many a moon ago.... and with much more vigor and finesse. But then again can I really compete with the likes of Brigitte Bardot, Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe... the list goes on!

Halsmans Jumpology is it ladies and gents and boy am I in love!
Where have these beauties been hiding?!
I think he's become my favourite! A surrealist photographer!
Have any of you heard of him? where have I been hiding?

'Phillippe Halsman had 101 Life covers to his credit when he died in 1979 by his greatest passion has been to photograph jumping people. In 1959, he published Philippe Halsman’s Jump Book (below), which contained a tongue-in-cheek discussion of jumpology and 178 photographs of celebrity jumpers.'

Today I wanted to tell you about a blog I visit called Blushing Ambition, Annabel is 'a 21-year-old student content with spending more money on food than clothes.'
